The Clare ski teams put up a good showing at the division two regional meet on Monday at Pine Knob Ski Resort in Clarkston. Both Pioneer teams took fourth place on the day and each squad had an individual qualify for states as Tiernan Gallagher qualified for the boys and Leah Palmer punched her ticket to the girls finals.

“Both teams overall had a good season and a great day,” head coach Tim Gariglio said. “After losing six seniors last year, I don’t think anyone would have guessed that both teams would have had a chance to qualify for states this year.”

For the Lady Pioneers,

In the slalom, Palmer led the team in 15th place with a combined time of 55.83, Alexis Cronin was 23rd and Mara Pomerville was 26th in times of 59.22 and 62.65, Hayley Campbell placed 44th at 73.41 and Teagan Russell was 52nd at 103.02.

In giant slalom, Palmer bumped her position to 12th thanks to a time of 38.59, Pomerville was 15th at 39.31, Russell placed 20th at 40.13, Cronin was 34th at 43.00, Elle Bark was 45th and Campbell was 46th in times of 46.13 and 46.35.

“The girls have been hot all year and they had a rough morning in slalom as several of the girls made mistakes,” Gariglio said. “In the afternoon they gave it their best effort to make up for it, but the girls fell short. Palmer is a first year racer… She had a phenomenal day and I guarantee she will be the only girl at the state finals who is only in her first year of racing. Lexi Cronin is the only senior on this team and she did an amazing job as a team captain, leading this team all season and keeping them together as a team.”

For the boys, in slalom it was Kevin Tanner leading the way in 12th place with a time of 50.30, Tiernan Gallagher was 15tha t 51.19, in 22nd was Alec Hoffman in a time of 53.17, Bruer Staley was 49th at 61.76, Ben Wood finished 51st at 61.93 and in 53rd in a time of 62.44 was Riley Hayer.

In the slalom, the boys had Gallagher come in 13th with a time of 37.66, Hoffman was 18th at 37.97, Tanner came in 30th at 39.14, Hayer was 39th at 39.94, Seth Baldridge was 58th at 43.71 and Wood was 63rd at 44.56.
